The first step toward change is awareness. The second step is acceptance.
-Nathaniel Branden
There are atleast 970 million people worldwide who have been living with High blood pressure (hypertension) as on date.

The World Health Organization-WHO rates hypertension as one of the most important causes of premature death worldwide as the problem is invariably increasing each day. Based on the current scenario & projections, the estimated adults living with high blood pressure by 2025 will be 1.56 billion. The disorder now is just not limited to old aged people of 50 years & above but even the younger generation has been found suffering through the same.

Factors influencing Hypertension:
The ideal blood pressure for people wishing to have good health is below 120 over 80 (120/80). Several factors which can be directly or inversely proportional hypertension are:
 Include age (blood pressure usually increases with age)
 Diet,
 Excessive alcohol consumption,
 Lack of exercise, obesity,
 Sleep apnea, stress and family history of hypertension.

What is Hypertension?

In Scientific terms, when the blood flows from the heart through the arteries, it creates pressure against the arteries walls. In case of hypertension, this pressure exceeds the normal range. The elevated blood pressure has very serious consequences as it damages the arteries, kidneys, and heart. Hypertension coupled with diabetes exponentially increases the damage if left un-controlled. Due to lack of appropriate knowledge 30% of those who suffer from this disorder don’t realize they have it which is all the more dangerous because it has no warning signs or symptoms and hence it is important for each one of us to not to ignore health related issues and take pro-active measures as it’s rightly said “Precaution is better than cure”

There usually are no symptoms of hypertension, which is why it’s been dubbed the silent killer. But if blood pressure climbs to extreme highs, one might experience a severe headache, chest pain, vision changes or a nosebleed or blood in urine. Hypertension can be best prevented by adjusting your lifestyle i.e. with proper diet and exercise. Though difficult but it is important to maintain a healthy weight, reduce salt intake, keep a tab on the alcohol consumption & adopt and practice stress free life.
