Lipsticks: The Ornament To The Most Delicate Part Of You!!

lipstick_logo_web

Lipsticks are known as a woman’s best friend. No matter what, you are sure to find one of these hidden in every woman’s handbag or closet. We have seen it on almost every woman. We place it on our lips and it does make us more attractive, sophisticated in fact more woman. It is one of things we declare that we are ready to become women.

This cosmetic has been with mankind for quite a while. However, one thing to be noted here is that it did not begin in the early twentieth century or the century before that. The origins of lipstick lie in the mists of time; in the beginnings of human civilization in fact.

Harmful Lipstick?

Lipstick ingredients may vary widely from manufacturer to manufacturer, but most tend to have common elements. They all want to perform the same job, and that’s to make your lips as pretty as possible. Although women don’t usually make an effort to eat their lipstick, any time you lick your lips, eat or drink anything, trace amounts of lip color do get ingested. Even though the lead was found in trace amounts in most cases, for anyone concerned about taking in harmful chemicals, this was a wake-up call to the makeup industry and to consumers, especially when you hear that reportedly, we consume approximately four pounds of lipstick in our lives!

Typical Lipstick Ingredients

Check out some of the ingredients in this lipstick – they’ll have you thinking twice about what you put on your pout.

  • Wax: Whether it’s beeswax, candelilla wax, or camauba wax, this is the ingredient that allows the mixture to take that recognizable lipstick shape. Wax enables the lipstick to be formed into a tube.
  • Oil: Mineral, lanolin, castor or vegetable oil are added to the wax. These first two ingredients make up the majority of your lipstick.
  • Preservatives and antioxidants: This keeps your lipstick fresh, safe and prevents it from going bad.
  • Pigment: This is, of course, the color, which varies widely. Some women love pink; others love red or peach. There are so many different colors of lipstick that most women have several tubes at their disposal.
  • Fragrance: This ingredient is usually only present in small amounts and should smell pleasant.
The proportions and formulations are what give each lipstick its own properties. The way lipstick ingredients are mixed and how each is used can make for a matte or creamier combination.

Obviously after knowing so many harmful ingredients that the lipsticks which we normally use contain, you must be deciding to switch to the safer & organic alternative. Especially when it is concerned to the most delicate & precious part of your body. Who wants to take the risk!!

Recipe for Aloe juice at home:

the-best-way-to-prepare-aloe-vera-juice-at-home

Now that you’ve identified the numerous health benefits of aloe vera, it’s time to know how to make aloe vera juice on your own. Homemade juice ensures the presence of all the essential nutrients, which are often lost in the commercialisation process. What’s more, it helps in extending the shelf life of the product. This is how you can make your own aloe vera juice at home:

What You Need:

  • 1 large aloe vera leaf
  • A sharp knife
  • Spoon
  • Small bowl
  • Blender
  • 3 cup water

What You Need To Do:

  1. Cut out one large and healthy leaf from your aloe plant. You can gently pull them off too, but cutting would be essential if your plant is sturdy, just like mine.
  2. Remove the outer thorny layer of the leaves with the help of a sharp and pointy knife. This step will expose the latex of the leaves (a yellow layer that resides directly underneath).
  3. Cut through the latex of the leaf with the same knife and scoop out the inner clear aloe vera gel with the help of a small spoon. The tip of the knife can also be used.
  4. Transfer the gel into a small bowl.
  5. In the next step, examine the gel for any latex remnants. Removing the latex is important as they are the one carrying strong laxative properties.
  6. For making juice, take out two tablespoons of the aloe gel and put it into a blender.
  7. Add water and blend it on a low setting for three to five minutes.
  8. Pour out your juice in a clear glass. You can add a dash of lemon or ginger for added taste.
  9. Your delicious glass of aloe juice is ready. If you wish, you may also dilute this juice with other juices or water to enhance its taste or flavor. You may also consume it in its natural state, but be aware of its laxative effect.

Salt – Your Food Enhancer!!

salt

Salt, one of the world’s most abundant natural resources, is a natural mineral made up of two elements on the periodic table – sodium and chloride. (Don’t worry, there won’t be an exam at the end of this article.) Salt occurs naturally in the sea, but can also be mined from salt mines on land. There are a variety of different kinds of salt, so what’s the difference and what is each kind used for?

Here are the different variants:-

spilled-salt-on-table

  • Iodized table salt-

This is probably the most common type of salt and the kind you generally use to fill your saltshakers at home. The reason it’s called “iodized” is because today, most salt manufacturers fortify the salt with the mineral iodine, which is an essential mineral for fighting off certain iodine-related diseases like hypothyroidism. But if you need to limit your salt intake, there’s another natural way to get this important mineral into your system — eat more seaweed, which is rich in iodine.

bigstock-sea-salt-34380128

  • Sea Salt-

Sea salt, also known as bay salt, is produced by the process of evaporation of salt water bodies. It is darker in color as compared to the refined salts due to the absorption of essential minerals from the clay lining of the body of water. Normally, the harvesting of refined table salt involves heavy processing, including mining followed by iodizing, bleaching, and diluting with anti-caking agents. More chemicals are added during the processing of salt, which often steals all of its beneficial minerals and trace elements, except sodium and chloride.

pink-himalayan-rock-salt-small-wooden-bowl-isolated-white-34407341

  • Sendha Namak (Rock Salt)-

Sendha namak is the Indian name for Rock Salt. It is a large-grained, coarse salt also called halite or land salt that’s normally available in large bags in most grocery and health food stores. It dissolves readily in water.

Sendha namak is mined from underground deposits of dried up lakes. It is unrefined, non iodized and contains no additional anti-caking agents. It is white, pink, or blue in color.

typesofsalt_m_0409-jpg-653x0_q80_crop-smart

What’s the difference between Sea salt/Table salt/Rock salt?

The main differences between sea salt/table salt/rock salt are in their taste, texture and processing.

dia_six_effect_evaporator1

Table salt is typically mined from underground salt deposits. Table salt is more heavily processed to eliminate minerals and usually contains an additive to prevent clumping. Most table salt also has added iodine, an essential nutrient that helps maintain a healthy thyroid.

Bonaire, Netherlands Antilles; large, white piles of sea salt at the Cargill Salt Bonaire production facility on the southern part of the island

Sea salt is produced through evaporation of ocean water or water from saltwater lakes, usually with little processing. Depending on the water source, this leaves behind certain trace minerals and elements. The minerals add flavor and color to sea salt, which also comes in a variety of coarseness levels.

salt-mine

Rock salt, also known as halite, is a very common mineral, with an interesting back story. Just as oil develops around natural deposits of vegetation, rock salt is often found where there was once an inland lake, which has dried up and been covered by hundreds or thousands of years of sedimentation and geological formations. These deposits tend to crystallize, and often contain minerals and impurities from the surrounding soil, much like petrified organic material.employee-benefits

Health Benefits Of Different types of Salt:

Iodized salt is one of the most common sources of dietary Iodine. Iodine deficiency refers to the insufficiency of iodine mineral in the body, which is vital for the manufacturing of the thyroid hormone. It is extremely vital to maintain the electrolyte balance for the smooth functioning of the human organ systems. It has been proven that dietary salt determines the blood pressure of the body and has an impact on cardiovascular health, which is primarily related to strokes and  heart attacks.

The health benefits of Sea Salt include good skin care, improved dental health, relief from rheumatoid arthritis, muscle cramps, psoriasis, and osteoarthritis. It also helps in providing relief from acne and rhinosinusitis. Furthermore, it is beneficial for exfoliation, nasal and eye wash, and an improved electrolytic balance of the body. It has healing properties that play a vital role in maintaining acid-alkali ratio, regular heartbeat, and relaxed sleep, along with providing relief from general body fatigue.

Sea Salt is also very beneficial for Skin care & Hair care.

Rock Salt aids in digestion and is prescribed for laxative and digestive disorders. It improves appetite, removes gas and soothes heartburn. It facilitates the cellular absorption of minerals. It plays an important role in replenishing the body’s electrolytes and maintaining the pH balance. By stimulating blood circulation and mineral balance it removes toxic minerals and refined salt deposits. It stabilizes blood pressure by maintaining a balance of high and low blood pressures. It aids in weight loss by equalizing minerals which inhibit cravings and eliminate fat dead cells. Rock salt is used as a home remedy for curing many disorders and ailments such as rheumatic pain and herpes, inflammation and irritation from insect bites.

Nutritional Value Of Salt:

Table Salt contains sodium solo-co-aluminate, iodide, sodium bicarbonate, fluoride, anti-caking agents, toxic amounts of potassium iodide and aluminium derivatives.

Sea salt derives 82 essential trace nutrients from the mineral treasure trove present in sea water. These natural minerals are valuable for healthy functioning of the body. The nutritional wealth of sea salt includes vital minerals like sodium, potassium, calcium, magnesium, bromide, chloride, iron, copper, and zinc among other beneficial elements.

As pointed out earlier, Rock salt is the purest form of salt which is devoid of environmental pollutants and chemical components. It contains 84 out of the 92 trace elements required by the body including calcium, iron, zinc, potassium, magnesium, copper and so on.

Newborn Baby Food & Health Care

welcome-newborn-baby-happy-family-card-design-58239987A common question that parents often ask after the birth of their baby is, “When can I give my newborn food?”

    Feeding Newborns

Once your infant arrives, be prepared for lots of unsolicited advice from friends, relatives, and even strangers. Some of the advice will be good, but you’ll definitely need to learn to disregard outdated advice that may go against your pediatrician’s recommendations.

One of the often controversial subjects that you may encounter is feeding your baby. Well-meaning friends or relatives may tell you to begin giving your infant baby cereal to help him sleep through the night. Others may advice starting your infant on solid foods at 2-3 months of age. These are the advice that you should not follow for a number of reasons.

    • Your baby is not mature enough to grasp the concept of eating solid foods.
    • Your baby’s digestive system may not be able to adjust to the digestion of solid foods without causing discomfort.
    • Your infant could develop food allergies if started too early on solid foods.
    • Your infant should be receiving all the nutrients he or she needs from formula or breast milk in the first 4-6 months of life.

After 6 months of breastfeeding your baby, every parent is excited to enter the next growth phase, as well as worried about how and what solid foods to be introduced to their babies. A ton of questions run in our minds, like what should they eat, in what quantity, what if they don’t like the taste, how frequently should I feed them etc. In this blog, we will cover a few basic guides to introducing organic baby foods that should help you all get started without the worry!

What foods should they start with?

A 6+ month baby is still developing its digestive system, building new enzymes, acids, getting stronger muscles etc. So we should ideally start with organic foods that are easy to digest and not heavy on the stomach. Such foods are fruits like ripe bananas, guava, papaya, watermelon etc.  Slowly, you can also start with steamed vegetables like potatoes, beans, cauliflower, carrots etc. Steaming is the best way to retain max nutrition within the vegetable.

In most cultures, they also start with sprouted grains like millets and rice. Soaking and sprouting increases the nutritive value and also makes it very easy to digest. Sprouted Ragi or Finger Millet is one of the most nutritious foods for babies as its 10 times richer in calcium than other grains. If your baby likes ragi, please do try and feed foods based on this grain at least 3-4 times a week. You can make porridges, soft dosas, ragi laddoos, ragi seviyyan etc.

Try to procure locally grown, organic fresh fruits, vegetables, grains. Do ensure you procure them from either a trusted farmer / manufacturer or organically certified brand.

The benefits of introducing organically grown foods

Crops grown with the help of pesticides and chemicals are firstly toxic, as its residue always enters the food which we directly consume. The other important point is, plants don’t get a chance to naturally develop a strong immune system as all the chemicals destroy the pests externally. You can call it a lazy plant, as they don’t reach the full potential because of all the external help. Because of this, the nutrition value, anti-oxidants that naturally protects the plant reduces.

Remember, you are helping build a new body of your baby. So try as much as possible to build it from the best organic foods you can get.

What form should I introduce these foods?

Most moms immediately begin to completely mash foods to form a puree to feed your baby. At 6 months, your baby needs to start to form the reflexes to chew food. Have you not seen your baby try and pick everything on the ground to chew? They may not have teeth but have strong gums.

So finely chopped fruits or boiled vegetables that your baby can slowly chew will be a good start.

Juices, porridges, dosas, idlis, kheer, halwa, rotis. The more textures you introduce the better. All forms of organic baby food can be introduced slowly.

Hand mash everything you make and stay away from the mixer or blender to convert foods to a puree.  The puree habit, will still make them expect soft foods that are in a consistency to swallow, even when they turn 1+ and get teeth.

How often should I feed them?

From 6-8 months, your baby is most likely to eat 3 small meals of solids and 50-60% of the nourishment is met by breast milk. 8+ months, 3-4 meals of solids and breast milk become more of an add-on.

A simple rule will be to feed when your baby is hungry. First offer solid foods and then breast feed your baby. Don’t force, simply trust your baby’s instincts to eat and respect the choice of what they would like to eat.

How can I flavor the food?

    • Avoid adding salt & sugar upto the age of 1 year. Most of the salt the baby needs is already present in the foods and breast milk. Any excess salt will harm the kidneys.
    • Avoid refined sugar in these foods. Refined sugar has no nutritive value and have a lot of chemicals added while processing.
    • Replace salt with natural sourness like amla, curd, lime etc.
    • Replace refined sugar with natural sweetners like dates powder, jaggery, fruits etc.
    • Introduce a pinch of spices too. Spices have a lot of anti-oxidants that can be added to our foods. Spices like cinnamon, pepper, cardamom, nutmeg etc. have a lot of medicinal values too and make the food yummy.
