Get rid of back pain – the natural way!

Whether you’ve had a bad fall like Madonna did at the BRIT awards, or just have a sudden ache in your back, you may feel the muscles near your spine stiffening and becoming tense. If so, you’re probably suffering from back pain, which is usually caused by bad posture, incorrect sleeping positions or even just by bending the wrong way. Whether it’s slip disc or sciatica (a nerve related lower back pain), you don’t have to run to the medicine cabinet! Painkillers may seem like an easy back pain treatment, but these natural remedies, combined with some rest and relaxation, will work much better!

Stretch it out!

If you don’t stretch enough, you’re going to be hit by back pain that’s caused by stiff muscles. Make it a point to stretch as soon as you wake up in the morning and a few times through your day as well. Light stretches help alleviate, treat and prevent a backache.

Use a hot or cold compress

It’s no surprise that using a combination of heat and cold works wonders for your back pain. When your back begins to hurt though, the best thing to use is a cold compress, because the cold reduces swelling and inflammation that is causing the back pain, temporarily keeping pain signals at bay. Steady heat improves blood circulation and reduces the painful ache that can come hours after you’ve applied the cold compress, so remember to follow it up with a hot one!

Make sure that you’re getting enough vitamins

Nutritional deficiencies lead to a lack of calcium in your bones, which ultimately leads to joint, muscle, and in turn, back pain. Taking vitamin supplements can help for those who can’t get the balance right with their diets. Remember to get enough Vitamin D3 (an active form of vitamin D, which you can also get from good exposure to the sun!) in order to help your bones stay strong.

Use a kitchen remedy

Your kitchen is one of the best places to look for a back pain remedy! From alfalfa sprouts and turmeric to garlic oil and lemon juice, several ingredients can work wonders for your backache. Vinegar in particular is a boon, but not just any vinegar! While regular, white vinegar has gotten a bad reputation for properties that weaken your bones, apple cider vinegar works wonders for joint pain! If you mix it with turmeric, you’ve got a stellar combination, because while the apple cider works to keep your bones healthy, turmeric works to loosen stiff joints and reduce inflammation.

Be active

When your back is getting you down, don’t run to your bed and lie in all weekend! Staying stiff and inactive when your back hurts will actually worsen the problem. Instead, move around as much as you can without straining your back. A few light back pain exercises and some back strengthening yoga will help ease the backache while preventing further damage!

Apple Cider Vinegar is a miracle potion for good health, glowing skin and fabulous hair! It is not the easiest thing to drink, but if you think of it as a liquid vitamin for your health, it will become easier to drink this bitter potion of wholesome and natural goodness! There are many reasons you should be incorporating Apple Cider Vinegar in your life, and most, if not all (there are so many!) are listed below:

Apples are high in pectin, a type of insoluble fiber. This is particularly important because high-fiber foods increase feelings of satisfaction and fullness. As its name implies, apple cider vinegar is made from apples. Just like apples, apple cider vinegar is high in pectin. If you drink a glass of water with 1 or 2 tablespoons of apple cider vinegar before your meals, the insoluble fiber with help you feel full with less food. The fiber will also decrease the likelihood of you binging on unhealthy foods between meals. Add these together, and you have the recipe for weight-loss success.

TAMES TUMMY TROUBLES:

The pectin content in apple cider vinegar helps treat diarrhea by forming bulk fibrous matter. The pectin also forms a protective coat for soothing the colon lining and intestinal spasms. Try mixing one or two tablespoons into water, or clear juice like apple juice.

PREVENTS INDIGESTION:

Sip before eating, especially if you know you’re going to indulge in foods that cause indigestion. Add 1 teaspoon of honey and 1 teaspoon apple cider vinegar to a glass of warm water and drink it 30 minutes before you eat.

HELPS CLEAR A STUFFY NOSE AND SOOTHES SORE THROATS:

Mix a teaspoon of apple cider vinegar in a glass of water and drink. This helps sinus drainage. When you feel the prickle of a sore throat, start drinking this magic potion. Turns out, most germs can’t survive in the acidic environment vinegar creates. Just mix ¼ cup apple cider vinegar with ¼ cup warm water and gargle every hour or so.

HELPS HICCUPS:

Since hiccups are often caused by either low stomach acid slowing the digestion of protein, or eating too much. Apple cider vinegar can be a great solution for hiccups. It restores the acid balance in the stomach and eases irritating spasms of the diaphragm.

REDUCES SWELLING:

Rubbing apple cider vinegar onto swollen hands or feet reduces swelling. A wonderful thing during pregnancy!

Exercise and sometimes extreme stress cause lactic acid to build up in the body, causing fatigue. Apple cider vinegar contains potassium and enzymes that may relieve that tired feeling. Next time you’re feeling beat, add a tablespoon or two of apple cider vinegar to a glass of chilled vegetable drink or to a glass of water.

Apple cider vinegar taken diluted in water twice daily, will dissolve acid crystals in the blood and provide potassium, calcium and other essential minerals to the body needed to ease leg cramps.

Due to its acidic properties, apple cider vinegar makes a wonderful remedy for bad breath or halitosis. Simply add 1/2 tablespoon of apple cider vinegar into a cup of water and gargle the mixture in your mouth for 10 seconds at a time until the cup is empty.

One of the best home remedies to treat a yeast infection is apple cider vinegar. Add 1 and a half cups of apple cider vinegar into a bathtub filled with warm water, and then soak in it for about 20 minutes. This should be done once a day for the first 3 days of the infection.

FOOT / SKIN FUNGUS RELIEF:

Just as apple cider vinegar can help kill Candida in the body, it is often useful against yeast and fungus on the skin and nails. If you have foot or toe fungus, soak the feet in 1 cup of apple cider vinegar in water or apply directly to the affected area. For skin fungus or yeast, apply apple cider vinegar directly. For children or those with sensitive skin, it is best to dilute it with water before applying to the skin.

Research has indicated that apple cider vinegar improves the lipid profile of blood by decreasing the levels of triglycerides and low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) or bad cholesterol, as also by increasing the levels of high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C) or good cholesterol. If you have high cholesterol, consult your physician.

The potassium in apple cider vinegar may be especially beneficial because it works to prevent calcium build-up in the joints, which is linked to joint stiffness.

Acetic acid, the main ingredient in apple cider vinegar, will remove build up from styling products and conditioners and strengthen the hair shaft, leaving you with soft, shiny strands. It will also balance hair’s pH level, simulate the scalp to promote hair growth, and is a cure for dandruff. Dilute 1/3 cup of apple cider vinegar in 4 cups of water and pour over your hair after shampooing. Leave it in for a few seconds before rinse your hair using cold water to seal the hair shaft and create more shine.

FACE MASK:

Mix equal parts apple cider vinegar and bentonite clay, add 1 tablespoon raw honey. Apply to skin. Leave this detoxifying, deep-pore treatment on for 10-15 minutes before rinsing off with warm water.

SKIN TONER:

Psoriasis sufferers praise apple cider vinegar for reducing inflammation. Apply a few drops to a cotton ball and rub on your T-zone or other dry spots to prevent breakouts and minimize blemishes.

SOOTHING BATH AND FOOT SOAK:

The next time you get ready to slip into a warm bath, add one to two capfuls of apple cider vinegar. It draws toxins out of the body, leaving behind toned and moisturized skin. Use apple cider vinegar to soothe aching and swollen feet.

TEETH WHITENER:

Gargle with apple cider vinegar in the morning. The vinegar helps remove stains, whiten teeth, and kill bacteria in your mouth and gums. Brush as usual after you gargle.

SUNBURN REMEDY:

Relieve the pain of a sunburn and minimize peeling by applying a wash cloth soaked in apple cider vinegar to the area.

Apple cider vinegar contains sulfur that fights the effects of aging, including age spots. Dab age spots, or liver spots, with apple cider vinegar every night before you go to sleep. Do not wash off the vinegar. If you feel a stinging sensation, dilute the vinegar with water. Wash off in the morning.

EASES VARICOSE VEINS:

Apple cider vinegar is great for varicose veins because it improves circulation in the vein wall and helps to ease the bulging and swelling vein so it is less noticeable and less painful. Combine equal parts of apple cider vinegar and your favorite lotion. Apply morning and night to varicose veins in a circular motion until absorbed. Depending on the severity of your varicose veins, you should begin to see improvement within a month.

NATURAL DEODORANT:

Most commercial deodorants are antiperspirants, which block your ability to sweat. Since sweat is one of your body’s natural means of detoxification, blocking your ability to sweat can block your ability to detoxify. Apple cider vinegar absorbs and neutralizes odors. Simply rub a bit of it on your underarms. The vinegary smell dissipates once it dries.

ACNE REMEDY:

Apple cider vinegar kills bacteria and balances skin’s pH level. It also absorbs excessive oil from our skin, which is a leading cause of acne. Mix one part vinegar to 3-4 parts water. Apply solution directly to your skin with clean cotton pad, and leave it there for about ten minutes. After ten minutes, rinse off the vinegar. Repeat this three times a day. For severe cases of acne, the solution can be used overnight without rinsing.
