As promised, here is part two of Myths Busted. This time we are covering hair care. We all know at least one woman in our lives with perfectly groomed, non-frizzy, salon-worthy hair that could have bounced straight out of a L’Oréal commercial.
Your precious mane deserves more than tall tales. Here are few myth busted by our in house expert:
1.Brushing hair many times a day makes your hair healthier
This is now known as a risk to damage your scalp and follicular anatomy. Brushing pulls out hair that isn’t ready to fall out and also breaks healthy hair and scratches the scalp. Brush gently and only whenever required and that too by a good structured and smooth edged brush or comb.
- Stress does not affect hair health
New evidence proves stress is bad for hair health, so do take steps to reduce stress. Being stressed makes your hair fall out! When someone is under stress, hair can go into the telogen (fall-out) phase. Telogen effluvium is a very common hair loss problem that can occur up to three months after a stressful event.
- Cutting your hair frequently makes it grow faster.
Trimming your hair does not affect your hair growth but proper nutrition, good Hb levels and oiling (nourishing) your hair surely does!
4.Shampooing makes your hair shed
Don’t blame the shampoo! Your hair will simply fall our somewhere else of because of something else. People often lose hair in the shower so they associate shampooing with shedding. But do switch to organic / herbal ones rather than chemical loaded ones!
5.Colour treated hair is unhealthy
Bleaching indeed is one of the worst 5 things you can do to your hair but try using natural hair colours which do not affect your hair strands and follicle / scalp health. It is ok to color your hair.
6.Oil is no go if your hair is greasy
You need to apply oil to your hair regularly for nourishment even if your hair is greasy! Opt for nourishing oils with good ingredients like amla , almond, shikakai, jatamansi, henna, etc.
